Between 12-17th August 2024 two sports camps were held in Mohács, Hungary within the R-GO – Ready, Steady, Go – inclusive sport events for all Erasmus+ project. The camps were organized for children aged 7–14 and 14+ in which a total of 70 disadvantaged young people (37 from DGASPC HR and 33 from Csányi Alapítvány) participated.
The participants were accompanied by 4 mentors, 5 educators, and 3 youth workers, joined by 2 trainers from the Musubi Sports Association Csikszereda, and 18 trainers from the Csányi Foundation. Enlisting the help of small mentors is a proven practice at the Csányi Foundation, which develops the sense of responsibility of adults, so the mentor participants are residents of the family-type houses, who participated in the camp not only as beneficiaries but as kind of supervisors.
The program of the camp was designed based on the results of the needs analysis conducted by the researchers at the beginning of the year. The organizers focused on providing a wide range of sports activities, where boys and girls can equally participate in several sports, such as football, swimming, table tennis, badminton, volleyball, or aikido.
In addition to the sports activities, the organizers have prepared many interesting additional programs for this occasion, such as a visit to the Busóudvar complex in the city center, canoeing, swimming, a visit to a mill, a boat tour, a walk along the Danube coast, cinema, a city history quiz in the Community Hall, etc.
The planned sports activities are meant to develop social inclusion, cooperation, and understanding, and at the same time develop spatial and temporal coordination and self-awareness. The organizers focused on developing awareness of health, so the educators held a discussion and exchange of experiences about a healthy lifestyle.
Project period: 01.01.2024 – 31.12.2025
